The Techna Institute

Kelly Lane is a Sr. Project Manager at the University Health Network who has recently joined the Techna's Informatics and Communication Technology core. Previously Kelly had been jointly leading the Medical Informatics team as well as Health Informatics Research (HIR) group at Princess Margaret Hospital on the development and implementation of advanced clinical documentation applications used at the point of care and for research. In this combined role, she has shown leadership at a local, provincial and national level in various initiatives related to clinical documentation and synoptic reporting for UHN, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC), the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology and other groups. At UHN Kelly has led much of the groundbreaking work around advanced clinical documentation, including the Discharge Summary, O.R. Notes, Surgical Booking and Wait Times. Her work on the development of the Electronic Medication Information Transfer Tool (EMITT) helped set the standard for medication reconciliation at a national and international level. Kelly’s projects have won several awards including the Best International Best Practice Award at the 2006 OHA convention for the University Health Network’s electronic Discharge Summary.

Paul has recently joined Techna as a project manager for the Guided Therapeutics core. He completed his B. Sc in Engineering Physics at Queen’s University (2005) and his M. Sc at the University of Western Ontario (2008), where he studied 3D ultrasound-guided breast cancer therapy. Prior to joining Techna, he performed the role of research associate at UHN, and worked on image quality optimization in the cone beam CT module of the image-guided Perfexion (IGP) system and the XRAD-225Cx micro-irradiator. He has previously worked as a research scientist at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied dual-energy projection chest radiography and the application of cone-beam CT imaging for diagnosis of extremities injuries.

Tracey graduated from the McMaster University with a B.Sc in Medical and Health Physics (2005) and received her M.Sc in Medical Biophysics at the University of Western Ontario (2008), where she studied cancer cells using molecular MR imaging techniques. Prior to her role with Techna, she was a Radiation Safety Specialist with the University Health Network where she implemented safety standards for staff and ensured regulatory compliance with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
