Dr. Kieran Murphy, Techna’s Director of Research Faculty (Clinical) was in the news this week as stories from CTV and an interview with Radio Canada International discussed his invention of a device to bring relief to people with herniated discs. The device generates and injects ozone into a disc, causing the disc to shrink which resolves the cause of some kinds of back pain.

The device is currently being evaluated in a clinical trial in Vancouver, Toronto, and London, ON. In the Radio Canada International interview, Dr. Murphy makes it clear that there are many causes of back pain and this is not a panacea, but in initial tests in Italy his team found over 70% of patients with herniated discs had pain relief.
