The Augmented Reality (AR) Program
The Augmented Reality (AR) Program at UHN and TECHNA is focused on the development of AR technologies and applications to enable image-guidance with the improved spatial context in planning, education, review, and intervention. This contrasts traditional displays for image guidance where visualizations of virtual models are rendered on a separate display away from the operating field.
The AR system is able to provide real-time feedback metrics based on quantitative planning in procedures not found in commercial systems, such as guided osteotomies and out-of-plane ultrasound-guided ablations. Multi-client connectivity also enables multiple users to collaborate, either in the same physical space or remotely.
Biospecimen Portal solves the particular problem of discovering biospecimens related to those that have already been used within a lab, a process that until now has involved numerous back-and-forth emails and phone calls with multiple biobanks. The application represents one step in an overall effort to facilitate data flow in support of research and innovation while safeguarding patient privacy.
